What our service includes

Review of the notice of assessment

We compare the notice you received with your returns and documents to understand what was changed and why. Sometimes, providing the requested supporting documents is enough.

Notice of objection

If the assessment appears to be wrong, we prepare and file your notice of objection with Revenu Québec or the CRA within the required time limits, with the supporting explanations and documents.

Audits

With your authorization, we communicate with the auditor, gather the requested documents and explain each step of the audit.

Cancellation of penalties and interest

When circumstances justify it, we prepare a request to cancel or waive penalties or interest with the CRA or Revenu Québec.

Voluntary disclosure

Did you fail to report income or file returns? We explain the voluntary disclosure program and prepare the application, before the CRA or Revenu Québec contacts you.

Individuals and businesses

We support individuals, self-employed workers and corporations, for income tax as well as GST and QST.

Who is it for?

  • Individuals who have received a notice of assessment or reassessment
  • Self-employed workers and businesses being audited
  • Taxpayers with penalties or interest on their file

Frequently asked questions

What is the deadline to file a notice of objection?

Generally, you have 90 days from the date of the notice of assessment. An individual may instead object within one year after the filing deadline for their return, if that period is longer. The rules differ slightly between the CRA and Revenu Québec: do not wait, and contact us as soon as you receive the notice.

What should I do if I receive a letter from Revenu Québec or the CRA?

Do not ignore it. Note the date of the letter and the response deadline indicated, then gather the requested documents. We can review the letter with you and prepare the response.

Can you represent me during an audit?

Yes. With your authorization with Revenu Québec or the CRA, we can view your file, communicate with the auditor and send the requested documents.

Can penalties and interest be cancelled?

Sometimes. The CRA and Revenu Québec can cancel or reduce penalties and interest in certain situations, for example when circumstances beyond your control prevented you from meeting your obligations. With the CRA, the request must concern a year ending in the ten previous calendar years. We assess whether a request is justified in your case.

What is voluntary disclosure?

It is a program that allows you to correct past tax errors or omissions. When the application is made before the CRA or Revenu Québec contacts you, the possible relief from penalties and interest is generally greater. Both programs were recently changed; we explain the conditions that apply.

Can you guarantee the outcome of an objection?

No. The decision belongs to Revenu Québec or the CRA. Our role is to review your file, explain your options and present your arguments and documents as completely as possible.
